Chair Tuesday: Net stool

This bar stool is by Sam Johnson for MARK, a young company out of the UK.

Apparently inspired by fishing nets, this stool (there's also a chair version) is a nice example of light, all wire designs that I like for their crispness and airiness. Contrary to what you might first think, the wire seats on these types of chairs are actually not uncomfortable to sit on as long as they've been designed right.

The swirling cross-over pattern on these stools is quite nice too, I think it gives the stools a little bit of elegance and helps soften the rigidity of an all steel piece of furniture. And given how much of the stool is just air gaps between the thin wires, it helps make it beautifully understated and not try to dominate the area it's been placed in.
