Chair Tuesday: Affectual Chair

The lovely thing about the Affectual Chair by San Fransiscan designer Matthew Ray is the detail.  The way the plywood splits to accept the legs is really beautiful and a delightfully thought out solution.

As well as having lovely details, the overall package is quite nice too.  I'm quite fond of modern, angular chairs, and this one gets it pretty right.  The contrast of the warmth of the timber and the cool of the stainless steel legs is very nice.

Another clever aspect is that the shell was is manufactured to accept multiple leg variations, so the style of the chair can be changed be swapping the legs (eg changing from lounge to dining).

Overall a very well thought out design.
