Italy so far has been so much less than we expected. We know travel has it's ups and downs, but it definitely feels like the last couple of days have had more downs than ups. We're still shaking off sickness, and last night I had a migraine so bad there were lots of tears and not much sleep. It's been gloomy weather and we've had some accommodation hiccups which meant a frantic search this morning for a new place to stay tomorrow.
We're learning lots of things as we go though, like pharmacies keeping paracetamol behind the counter, pizzerias charging by the weight of your slice, and Italian men having no subtlety when it comes to looking at a lady.
We visited Navigli this morning (a series of canals that Leonardo da Vinci apparently perfected) but it looks like Milan missed the memo about having water in their canals, they looked more like open sewers. Ergh. We strolled around the area but being a Sunday everything was closed (thanks Europe).
Parco Sempione was nicer to stop in to, with an old castle and walking paths to the arch at the end. We strolled back to Duomo and stopped for more gelato, going by the mantra that any day can be improved with ice cream! It's hard to be down when you're getting stuck into that kind of deliciousness!
We're off to Florence tomorrow, and thankfully have sorted out some new accommodations that don't have reviews citing bed bug infestations!
