I think we're finally getting back on the holiday horse and shaking off our sickness! We headed straight in to see Duomo this morning, catching the first glimpse of it is one of those moments that you only ever experience the very first time you see something huge and amazing, and ancient! It towers over the square and is so detailed it's impossible to take in and fully comprehend. Tourist hustlers have progressed these days from selling plastic trinkets and moved onto taking a photo of you in front of the monument and printing it for you on a tiny wireless printer. We declined, but I was secretly impressed with their business plan!
My wonderful hairdresser recently returned from Milan, after having lived here for the last 12 years. My last few appointments with him have been non-stop hit lists of places we need to see, where to shop and where to eat. I'm feeling the pressure! We've ticked off a few things today, some shopping and some scouring and getting very lost being part of it.
We ended up eating lunch in a lovely terrace on top of a department store directly next door to Duomo. It was mind boggling to be eating prosciutto and olives next door to one of the biggest monuments in history. We shared an antipasti plate and a pizza, and were given free espressos to apologize for their slow service. We weren't too worried, it's not like we had anywhere else to be! A gelato this afternoon and some more strolling was a pretty good way to spend a Saturday!
