We made it safely to Tokyo! We had a hilariously simple airport check in experience, clocking in under 40 minutes from our door to the boarding gate. I guess there isn't too much happening at 5.30am! A 10 hour flight and two swollen ankles later we touched down in Tokyo. A 40 minute train ride into the city gave us the tiniest peek at what this city has on offer. Hopping off the train and onto the street was a bit of an assault on the senses, with lights and smells and humidity all hitting you at once. We went for a bit of a wander around the area we're staying in this evening, and have already taken a dozen photos of soft drinks and vending machines. The packaging is so good! I knew I'd be swayed by advertising and cute details, which is how we ended up with our first purchase being a Halloween themed Hello Kitty donut for ¥128. Wrapped in a napkin, placed in a paper bag and then popped inside a larger plastic carry bag - there's definitely a lot of commitment to packaging!
We're only in Tokyo for a few nights, so our list of things to do is quite a small one. We're hoping to visit the zoo and the Skytree, and my more ridiculous list includes buying cute stationery, visit a cat cafe and see a Shiba Inu. It's the little things!
